Gearbox Reportedly On Verge of Sale as Embracer Group Restructures
Video game developer Gearbox Software appears closer than ever to being sold, according to recent reports. This news comes amidst a major restructuring at its parent company, Embracer Group, following the collapse of a significant financial deal.
Embracer Group has been undergoing a significant reorganization, including selling off subsidiaries and streamlining operations. This effort is aimed at recovering from the loss of a $2 billion Saudi-backed deal that left the company in financial difficulty. Recently, they announced the sale of Saber Interactive to a private investment group for $500 million.
Gearbox, acquired by Embracer Group in 2021 for $1.2 billion, is unlikely to be retained by the company. The legendary developer, known for franchises like Borderlands, Counter-Strike, and Brothers in Arms, has been operating for 25 years.
According to an article published by Kotaku, further details regarding Gearbox's future will be revealed next month. However, sources close to the deal claim a decision has already been made, and that decision is to sell the studio.
