Forza Horizon 5’s “Back to the 90s” Update Brings Nostalgic Vibes This October
Playground Games is taking Forza Horizon 5 fans on a trip back in time with the latest “Back to the 90s” update, set to launch on October 10. The update promises to immerse players in 90s nostalgia, featuring iconic vehicles from the decade, new themed events, and the return of a beloved game mode. This is yet another addition in Playground's ongoing efforts to keep Forza Horizon 5 fresh since its release in November 2021.
A Retro Revival on the Horizon
Ditching the spooky vibes often associated with October, the "Back to the 90s" update brings four classic 90s cars as rewards:
Aston Martin Lagonda (1990)
Subaru SVX (1996)
Toyota Soarer 2.5 GT-T (1997)
Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R (1998)
These additions will delight car enthusiasts who have a soft spot for 90s aesthetics. Alongside these new rides, the Festival Playlist gets a fresh makeover, including 90s-themed challenges and events. Players will also have the opportunity to hunt for a new VHS Collectible, unlock a 90s-themed Cosmetic Outfit, and earn up to three new Badges. For those who enjoy the recently added Hide and Seek mode, there are five new achievements specifically tailored for it.
Horizon Backstage Makes a Return
The highlight of the update is the return of Horizon Backstage, a fan-favorite feature that many players have eagerly awaited. This mode allows players to unlock previously exclusive reward cars from older Festival Playlists through a community voting system. Initially, six cars will be available:
BMW M4 Competition Coupe (2021)
Cadillac XTS Limousine (2013)
Fiat 131 Abarth (1980)
Mercedes-Benz 280 SL (1967)
Pagani Huayra BC (2016)
Rivian R1S (2022)
Horizon Backstage will rotate these options weekly, giving players a choice between two car pairs. Players can earn Backstage Passes as weekly rewards or buy additional ones for 1,000 Forzathon Points, offering a fair chance to add rare and fast vehicles to their collections.
Patch Notes and Improvements
Aside from new content, the update addresses several bugs:
Resolved paint selection issues with the 1994 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR.
Fixed problems with licence plate resets in the Hide and Seek mode.
Resolved a bug where players could reset cars while moving.
Addressed issues with Hide and Seek game sessions and DLC map compatibility.
Improved localization for accolades in multiple languages.
A Nostalgic Experience, But Some Missed Opportunities
While the update has generated buzz among players eager for more 90s content, some have noted the lack of period-appropriate music, which could have enhanced the nostalgic feel. Fans of the Retrowave update had hoped for a similar touch, but the focus here remains on the cars and events.
