Valorant Breaks New Ground: Console Beta Launches June 14th
Riot Games' highly acclaimed tactical shooter, Valorant, has been a PC-exclusive sensation since its debut in 2020. Now, the wait is over for console gamers eager to join the fray. Riot has officially announced that Valorant will be available on consoles, starting with a limited beta release for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on June 14th. Gamers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, and Japan can register for the beta right here, with potential expansion to other global regions shortly after.
The console version of Valorant promises "custom-built gameplay" tailored specifically for the platform. For competitive integrity, crossplay between console and PC will not be supported. However, players who enjoy the game on both platforms will benefit from cross-progression, ensuring that skins and progression carry over seamlessly.
"We were adamant that Valorant’s core, competitive gameplay must feel natural on a controller," stated production director Arnar Hrafn Gylfason. "And — if we couldn’t deliver on that gameplay promise — we had to be prepared to walk away from it. We hope we nailed it, but ultimately, our players will have the final say."
In addition to the console release, fans are still anticipating more news about the mobile version of Valorant, which was announced in 2021. Entering a competitive arena of online shooters, Valorant on consoles will face off against established giants like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Overwatch 2, as well as highly anticipated newcomers like Marvel Rivals and Sony’s Concord.
Stay tuned for more updates on the console release of Valorant and register now to be among the first to experience the action on your console.
