Bethesda and ID Software unveil Quake II remaster at QuakeCon 2023

Bethesda and ID Software surprised fans at QuakeCon 2023 with the sudden release of the Quake II remaster. This revamped version of the iconic FPS game boasts enhanced visuals, a new expansion, multiplayer modes, and even includes the Nintendo 64 variant. Gamers can enjoy the remaster on Xbox One, Series S | X, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and PS5. It's also accessible through Xbox and PC Game Pass subscriptions, as well as Xbox Cloud Gaming.

This surprise launch follows a similar pattern to Quake 1's remaster, which debuted on the same day it was announced during QuakeCon 2021. QuakeCon, renowned for its LAN parties and multiplayer gaming, has been a staple since 1996, offering a unique platform for game reveals.

Hints of the Quake II remaster had been circulating, including a 'Quake II Enhanced' listing on a South Korean ratings board and predictions from gaming leaker billbil-kun. Priced at $9.99, the remaster offers more than just a facelift; it introduces 28 new campaign levels and a Deathmatch map, developed by MachineGames, known for their work on Wolfenstein titles.

As the gaming excitement continues, Bethesda and Xbox Game Studios gear up for Gamescom 2023, where Microsoft plans to unveil gameplay from highly anticipated games like Starfield and Forza Motorsport. The convention, starting on August 23, adds to the buzz of an eventful gaming season.
