Gameplay footage of Assassin’s Creed Jade leaks online
Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade is an upcoming stealth action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft. It will be the 26th installment of the Assassin’s Creed video game series and the 7th release for mobile. The Assassin’s Creed games are always set within a specific time in history and in Jade, players find themselves in 215 BCE China, during the Qin dynasty.
Jade was teased back in September 2022 during the Assassin's Creed Ubisoft Forward showcase. There is currently no information on a release date, although based on the relative polish of the leaked footage, it is safe to say it will be in our hands at some point during the first half of 2023.
Leaked gameplay footage of Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade was found online, which shows a few minutes of the player traveling along the Great Wall of China, some combat and a cutscene. As confirmed by Ubisoft, the goal was to create a AAA quality title for mobile and based on the leaked footage, it appears they are on track to achieve this goal as the quality looks very console-like (baring in mind the video quality and early development stage). Check out the footage here.
Jade, as well as the upcoming Assassin’s Creed console release, Mirage, are supposedly returning to the roots of the series in terms of gameplay. Recent Assassin’s Creed games such as Valhalla and Odyssey, sit more in the RPG genre which has disheartened fans of the original gameplay style which were more focused on linear stealthiness . With Jade and Mirage focusing more on the stealth gameplay, they are exciting projects for fans of the original games to keep an eye on.
As the hardware in smartphones continues to get more and more advanced, the graphics, audio and processing quality of mobile video games grows alongside it. The typical mobile game monetization model focuses on free to download, however with microtransactions and time gates that can be removed for a fee, similar to how other Assassin’s Creed mobile games function. It will be interesting to see how Ubisoft handles Jade, and whether they will stick to the mobile model or the monetization model of typical AAA console games.
