iPhone's Next Big Update iOS 16 Includes Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Support
iOS 16, the next major iPhone operating system update, will be adding native support for the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons and Switch Pro Controller.
Spotted by iOS developer Riley Testut, who shared on his Twitter account that iOS 16 is confirmed to support both the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Joy-Cons. Testut even confirmed in a separate tweet that you could also connect a single Joy-Con to a phone with iOS 16 installed if you wanted to. Testut noted that the Pro Controller, in particular, worked "perfectly" when he tested it.
Additionally, Nat Brown, an engineering manager at Apple, also confirmed the support for both controllers. More interestingly, Brown shared information on how to switch between single and dual Joy-Cons on iOS 16, and all you would need to do is hold the screenshot and home buttons for several seconds to make the swap.
The Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers will join the likes of other official controllers made by Nintendo's competitors, PlayStation and Xbox. Both sets of controllers have been supported on iPhones and iPads since the iOS 14.5 update.
