Unveiling Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – What to Expect from the Latest Campaign
Activision has unveiled a tantalising preview of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign during Opening Night Live, marking the start of gamescom 2024. Following the lukewarm reception of the Modern Warfare 3 campaign last year, Raven Software is under pressure to make a significant impact with this new instalment, a follow-up to Black Ops Cold War.
Set in the early 1990s, a pivotal era characterised by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a dominant global power, the Black Ops 6 campaign promises a thrilling narrative. The newly introduced omnimovement feature, highlighted in the trailer, allows players to execute intricate manoeuvres, such as throwing a knife from behind cover while prone.
The showcased mission, titled "Most Wanted," involves a high-stakes rescue operation. Players must infiltrate a top-secret black site beneath Washington, D.C., to retrieve a team member who has been captured.
Here’s what Activision has shared about the campaign:
"Playing the role of ‘Case,’ a crucial member of the Black Ops team led by Frank Woods, you will team up with Woods' protégé, Troy Marshall, technical expert Felix Neumann, and Sevati ‘Sev’ Dumas, an infiltration and assassination specialist. The mission kicks off with Troy and Felix in a commandeered S.W.A.T. truck near Capitol Station, testing a new gadget – a camera equipped with retinal scanning technology. Your objective is clear: infiltrate a political fundraiser, acquire retinal identification from a senator with access to the Black Site, and rescue Adler before the operation is compromised. Sounds straightforward, right?"
Black Ops 6, the first mainline entry in the Call of Duty series to be released after Microsoft's monumental $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, is set to launch on October 25, 2024. The game will be available both as a premium purchase and on the Game Pass subscription service from day one.
