Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 Remake Reportedly Rejected In Favour Of More Call Of Duty Content

Since the successful launch of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 in 2020, fans have been eagerly awaiting news of potential remakes for the third and fourth instalments of the beloved franchise. However, it seems that these hopes have been dashed, as developer Vicarious Visions reportedly pitched a remake for THPS 3 and 4, only to have their plans rejected in favour of supporting Call of Duty.

According to video game historian Liam Robertson at Did You Know Gaming (via VGC), Vicarious Visions had originally intended to include THPS 3 and 4 in the remake, but as they delved deeper into the project, they realised the enormity of the task at hand.

"We settled on adding some handling features from the later games to reflect the way people remember the old Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games," one of Robertson's VV sources claimed. "The improvements from THPS 3 seemed to bleed into people's memories of the first two. Eventually, it became clear that we didn't have time for more than 1 + 2, so the idea that we'd continue on and release 3 + 4 in some fashion was on the table."

Despite the critical and commercial success of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, Activision reportedly passed on the pitch to focus on leveraging Vicarious Visions' talent for the Call of Duty franchise. The studio was later absorbed into Blizzard as a support team in April 2022, and rebranded to Blizzard Albany.

However, with recent developments in the gaming industry, there might still be hope for fans of the Tony Hawk series. Toys for Bob, another studio under the Activision Blizzard umbrella, recently split from the company and reportedly struck a deal with Microsoft to fund its next title. Given that Microsoft now owns Activision Blizzard, there is a possibility that the idea for a THPS 3 + 4 remake could be revisited in the future under new management.

In the meantime, for those craving a skateboarding fix, there are several other titles to explore. Session: Skate Sim and Skater XL offer a more realistic take on the genre, while EA's Skate series is gearing up for a relaunch as a free-to-play title, aiming to make its comeback on consoles and platforms before 2050.

While the Tony Hawk franchise may currently be on pause, the wheels of the skateboarding gaming community continue to turn, promising exciting developments on the horizon.
