Renowned game developer Joseph Staten joins Netflix Games for upcoming AAA title
Game developer Joseph Staten, who previously worked on popular games such as Halo and Destiny, has joined Netflix Games as a creative director for an upcoming AAA game. The project, which has been described as multiplatform, is being kept under wraps, but the involvement of Staten indicates that it could be a significant undertaking. Netflix Games aims to release around 40 games this year, including original titles and a selection of indie hits.
Staten’s arrival at Netflix is part of the company’s effort to expand its game development output. In addition to the games it is producing in-house, the company has over 70 games in development at external studios. While Netflix Games has thus far focused on mobile games, it has expressed interest in cloud-based gaming technologies and is in the process of creating a high-budget PC shooter game.
Staten has worked in the games industry for many years and has held key positions at major game developers such as Microsoft and Bungie. His experience includes writing and co-creating Halo and Halo 2, and serving as senior creative director at Xbox Game Studios Publishing. He most recently worked as head of creative on Halo Infinite before joining Netflix.
Staten expressed his excitement about joining Netflix on Twitter, stating that he enjoys collaborating with others to create immersive worlds and characters. While no details have been released about the new game he will be working on, his involvement in the project is sure to generate buzz in the gaming community.
