Epic Games Unveils Nostalgic Revival of Fortnite's Chapter 1 with New Update
In a surprising announcement, Epic Games has revealed that Fortnite's upcoming major update will take players back to the beloved Chapter 1 era while preserving the popular sprinting and mantling gameplay mechanics.
The announcement came via a cryptic image posted on X/Twitter earlier today, featuring the iconic Fortnite battle bus, along with the message "Sprint (or Mantle, your choice) back to Chapter 1... see you soon 11.2.2023," accompanied by the hashtag #FortniteOG. This post echoed a teaser by Epic's Vice President and Co-Founder, Mark Rein, who hinted at the theme for the next Fortnite season being "rewind."
This revelation seemingly confirms recent rumors about a return to the Chapter 1 Fortnite map. Notably, influencers have received care packages from Epic, which included pins representing seasons from the first chapter and a vinyl record featuring an etching of the Chapter 1 Season 5 map on the reverse side.
Importantly, Epic's social media announcement reassured the Fortnite community that the mantling and sprinting mechanics introduced in Chapter 2 and 3 will remain a part of the game, dispelling concerns that had arisen due to earlier rumors.
This nostalgic update follows Fortnite's recent hosting of the Alan Wake: Flashback experience, designed to acquaint gamers with the story of Remedy Entertainment's 2010 cult classic ahead of the release of Alan Wake 2.
In less positive news, Epic Games recently made headlines for laying off 830 employees in a cost-saving move attributed to financial difficulties. Furthermore, the company has raised the price of Fortnite's in-game currency, 'V-bucks,' in the United States and other countries.
