Elden Ring's Upcoming DLC: What Awaits in the Shadow of the Erdtree?

FromSoftware has dropped a tantalising new story trailer for "The Shadow of the Erdtree," the highly anticipated downloadable content (DLC) for the blockbuster video game Elden Ring. Arriving just a month before the DLC's June 21 release date, the clip offers a glimpse into the big adventure that will expand on one of the best games of 2022.

The trailer transports players to the Land of Shadow, a mysterious realm that Miquella, the main character of the Erdtree DLC, ventured into after leaving the areas depicted in Elden Ring. The trailer showcases a city engulfed in flames, situated in the ominous shadow of the colossal and radiant Erdtree, hinting at the dire battles that have ravaged the land.

In true Elden Ring fashion, the DLC story trailer reveals only fragments of lore, maintaining the cryptic narrative style that fans have come to love. These scraps of lore are intricately tied to the original game's backstory, involving a semi-divine family of powerful beings such as Marika, Malenia, Godwyn, and others. According to the lore, Miquella couldn't cure his sister Malenia of the Scarlet Rot and abandoned his flesh to travel to the Land of Shadow. It remains unclear whether Miquella will aid or hinder the Tarnished player in their journey.

The trailer also introduces another intriguing character: Messmer the Impaler. He is prominently featured amid the army burning the city beneath the Erdtree and is shown swiftly dispatching an enemy. However, his allegiance and intentions toward Miquella and the player are still shrouded in mystery.

While the story trailer gives fans plenty to ponder over the next month, it doesn't provide additional details about the gameplay or the new areas to be explored in the DLC. For those insights, players will have to revisit the February gameplay trailer, which remains the only source of information on the new enemies, bosses, weapons, skills, and spells that await in the Land of Shadow.

Stay tuned on DailyGamer for more updates as we approach the release of "The Shadow of the Erdtree," and prepare to delve deeper into the world of Elden Ring.
