Liam Hemsworth to replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia

Earlier today Henry Cavill announced via his official instagram page that he will be stepping down as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher TV series for season 4, and is being replaced by Liam Hemsworth. Henry’s post said the following:

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.

Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find”.

It is still unclear as to exactly why Henry is stepping down, however it could be due to Henry’s additional work commitments as he also recently announced that he would be returning to the DC universe as Superman. Liam also shared his thoughts on the news in an Instagram post which said the following:

“As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I'm honored that he's handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf's blades for the next chapter of his adventure.

Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I'm truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world”.

So far the news has received a mixed response with a lot of fans disappointed to see Henry leaving the show. As a fan of the books, and games, Henry brought a high level of passion, enthusiasm, and perfectionism to the role. With season 3 expected to be released in 2023, fans will continue to see Henry as Geralt however with the knowledge that it is for the last time, it will come with an underlying melancholy. Liam certainly has some big boots to fill and a lot of work cut out for him in order to deliver the character people have come to expect, but fans of the series remain hopeful.
