November GTA Trilogy Update Fixes Bugs, Adds New Weapon Mechanics
The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition just got a surprising upgrade. A new feature, unlisted in the official patch notes, now lets players run while shooting with shotguns, assault rifles, and flamethrowers, a mechanic absent from both the original versions and mobile ports. This change makes the Definitive Edition unique among all versions of the games.
The November 2024 patch also introduced several listed updates, including a classic lighting option to restore the original games’ atmospheric visuals and a slew of bug fixes aimed at improving the experience. The running-and-shooting mechanic, however, wasn’t officially announced and was first reported by Twitter user Besk.
Fans React to Unlisted Changes
The addition of running and shooting with heavier weapons has been met with praise, but some players questioned why this feature wasn’t carried over to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. As one fan explained, San Andreas uses a different shooting system, which could explain the inconsistency.
Beyond the hidden weapon mechanic, Besk also identified various unmentioned improvements:
Enhanced visuals and animations, including adjustments to CJ’s soda-drinking animation.
Improved map details and textures.
The ability to pause during cutscenes in all three games.
Fixes for game-breaking glitches, such as a bug that allowed players to skip ahead to locked islands.
The State of GTA Trilogy and Developer Involvement
Interestingly, some players noted that the logos of Grove Street Games, the studio behind the Definitive Edition, are missing from certain screens after the patch. Despite speculation, Besk clarified that Grove Street Games is still credited for the fixes and remains involved. This patch has significantly improved the Trilogy, bringing it closer to the polished experience fans expected at launch.
What's Next for the GTA Trilogy?
With consistent support and unexpected additions like the running-and-shooting mechanic, Rockstar seems committed to salvaging the Definitive Edition’s reputation. Fans are now speculating what other surprises future patches might hold.
