Xbox head addresses Redfall's lackluster launch and their commitment to improving the game
Xbox head Phil Spencer has expressed his disappointment with the launch of Redfall, a console-exclusive game that was released on PC and Xbox Series X/S earlier this week. The game received a lukewarm reception from both critics and players alike, prompting Spencer to address the issue in a recent appearance on Kinda Funny Games.
During the interview, Spencer spoke candidly about the backlash to the game's announcement that it would run at 30 frames per second instead of the previously promised 60 frames per second. He described the response as a "punch in the chin," adding that he was "disappointed" and "upset" with himself and the team.
Despite the disappointing launch, Spencer made it clear that both Xbox and developer Arkane are committed to improving the game. He also emphasized that he would not let the negative feedback discourage developers from pursuing their creative aspirations.
"We're gonna continue to work the game," Spencer said. "We've shown a commitment to games like Sea of Thieves and Grounded to continue to go and build games. But I also know these games are $70, and I'm gonna take full responsibility for launching a game that needs to be great."
Spencer's comments suggest that Xbox and Arkane are willing to invest the time and resources necessary to improve Redfall and make it the game it was intended to be. Although the launch may have been disappointing, players can rest assured that the team behind the game is dedicated to delivering a quality experience.
