EA Ends Online Support for Older Battlefield Games This November

EA has announced its plan to remove three more older Battlefield games from digital storefronts later this month, with their online services set to end this November.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield: Hardline, released in 2011, 2013, and 2015 respectively, will be delisted from digital storefronts on Wednesday, July 31st. After this date, these games and their corresponding DLC will no longer be available for purchase.

Furthermore, the online components for all three titles will be discontinued on November 7th, 2024. Despite this, players will still be able to access the single-player modes.

It's important to note that this announcement only affects the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Battlefield 3 will remain playable on PC, while Battlefield 4 and Battlefield: Hardline will still be accessible on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

While EA hasn't provided a specific reason for "sunsetting" these titles, an accompanying FAQ mentions that such decisions are often made for legal reasons or due to the reallocation of resources. "There comes a time in every game's lifecycle when it makes sense for us to remove it from online stores," the FAQ explains.

This move follows EA's decision last year to remove Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 from sale. At the time, EA stated the decision was made to "shift its focus towards our current and future Battlefield experiences."
