Ranked play will be coming to Fortnite

Epic Games, the developer behind the popular battle royale game Fortnite, has announced via Twitter that Fornite will be getting ranked play. This comes days after the developer teased a new way to win in the game by sharing a 20-second teaser on its official Twitter account that hinted at a possible ranked mode being added to the game soon.

Information on the Epic Games website explains that the ranks will span across Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, and Unreal. Bronze through Diamond will have three ranks, while Elite, Champion, and Unreal will have one. Climb the ranks of Bronze to reach Silver, then Gold, and do the same in Gold, Platinum, and Diamond to reach Elite. Once you reach Elite, prove yourself against other highly-skilled players to advance to Champion, and then finally to Unreal.

The gameplay in Ranked matches will be the same as in traditional Battle Royale and Zero Build matches. The only balance changes made are material caps will be decreased from 999 to 500, and harvesting rates will be adjusted. There is a separate rank for Battle Royale and Zero Build. Once players reach Unreal, they will be given a number signifying their standing among Unreal players globally.

The news of the update comes just as Fortnite Creative 2.0 has added the Unreal Editor to the game. This public beta allows players to make greater changes in Fortnite Creative mode by editing with a new version of the Unreal Engine toolkit, as part of Fortnite's transition to the Unreal 5 engine.

A ranked mode will allow players to compete against each other in a more competitive environment. This would be a major addition to the game, as it would provide players with a new way to test their skills and compete against other players of a similar skill level.
