Apple unveils the Vision Pro AR/VR headset with a hefty price tag
Apple has unveiled its AR/VR headset, the Vision Pro, at its developers conference. Priced at $3,499, the device promises to revolutionize the VR experience by seamlessly integrating digital content into the user's surroundings through "Spatial Computing." Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, expressed excitement about the device's potential.
The Vision Pro headset allows users to interact with apps and experiences in both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) spaces. It relies solely on eye, hand, and voice commands for navigation. The device offers features such as browsing by eye contact, selecting by finger taps, and scrolling through gentle flicks.
Vision Pro includes the "EyeSight" feature to enhance AR interactions and a "3D camera" for spatial photography and immersive entertainment experiences. The price of $3,499 has raised eyebrows, but Apple positions the device as a powerful replacement or supplement to existing devices.
Mark Zuckerberg preemptively announced Facebook's Meta Quest 3 VR device before Apple's unveiling, while HTC welcomed Apple's entry into the extended reality community. Apple aims to avoid the fate of previous industry leaders who underestimated the impact of Apple's disruptive technologies. The Vision Pro is scheduled to launch early next year in the US.
