Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has the biggest PlayStation Store launch ever for a Call of Duty Game

PlayStation have congratulated the developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Infinity Ward and Activision, through a tweet yesterday for having the biggest PlayStation Store launch ever for a Call of Duty Game including pre-orders and day one releases. The game has reportedly made over 600 million dollars in its first weekend which is comparable to the opening box-office figures associated with the biggest Marvel Avengers movies and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which was officially released on the 28th of October, is a direct sequel to the 2019 Modern Warfare and is the 19th installment of the Call of Duty series. Players will be able to fight it out in the intense fast paced Multiplayer, battle for survival in Warzone, and reunite with familiar faces from the 141 Task Force such as Price and Ghost in the Campaign.

With the recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, which was the largest acquisition in video game history, the community was concerned that the Call of Duty series might become an Xbox exclusive game. Microsoft has stated that the Call of Duty games will be available on the PlayStation Store for the next 3 years, which PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has responded saying that it is “inadequate on many levels”. With the recent financial success of Modern Warfare II on PlayStation, it’s easy to understand Ryan’s frustration if the cash cow leaves their platform.
