What is Blockchain Gaming? Tim From Unix Explains All

On episode 15 of the Daily Gamer podcast, we sat down with Tim Biggar, the head of marketing for Unix Gaming, to discuss what they do, some exciting projects that they are working on, and all things blockchain gaming. Tim explained that Unix Gaming is an ecosystem for web3 developers and games. The web3 gamespace can be a challenging area to navigate and Unix Gaming provides the necessary resources to developers in order to create successful blockchain games.

One exciting project that Unix Gaming is working on is Owned.gg, which Tim explained is a platform for people to find blockchain games, essentially like Steam for blockchain gaming. The Owned.gg platform is expected to be released in Q2 of this year. We also had a discussion with Tim about some of the unique challenges involved in developing a successful blockchain game compared to a typical game, the complicated technology involved, and how the diverse team at Unix Gaming are able to provide that helping hand.

Tim explained that one of the main challenges involved in developing a blockchain game is the complexity involved in the monetization, and finding the balance between user enjoyment and the promotion of a cryptocurrency and/or NFT. “Creating a highly successful blockchain game needs to have the blockchain element benefit the players and not just to be another source of revenue for the developer”. Tim says that at the end of the day in order for a blockchain game to be successful, and grow into a mainstream element of the gaming industry, you need to have a great game that people want to play, with the blockchain element incorporated as an additional interesting feature.
