Concerns arise as Diablo IV's in-game cosmetics reveal hefty price tags

Fans of Blizzard's beloved action role-playing game (ARPG) series, Diablo, have expressed concern over the steep prices found in Diablo IV's in-game cosmetic store. Although the game has garnered rave reviews ahead of its upcoming early access launch on June 2, the exact cost of certain microtransactions has yet to be officially disclosed. It has been known for some time that Diablo IV would feature a microtransaction store specifically for cosmetics, but the recently leaked images have shed light on what players can expect.

Shared on Reddit, the images offer insights into the optional cosmetic items available in Diablo IV. One image reveals a Necromancer armor set priced at approximately 2,800 platinum, the game's premium currency. Blizzard had previously stated that the premium battle pass would cost around 1,000 platinum, equivalent to roughly $10 USD. Hence, the leaked image suggests that the cosmetic armor set would cost approximately $28. Another image highlights an in-game mount and armor set priced at 1,600 platinum, or $16.

Players have raised concerns about the need to purchase higher amounts of premium currency in order to acquire specific cosmetic items. Given that players can rarely buy the exact amount of premium currency they desire, Diablo IV players may need to purchase $30 or $20 worth of platinum to obtain the $28 or $16 cosmetics, respectively.

Opinions among Diablo fans on the subreddit are divided. While some fans are accepting of microtransaction cosmetics, they feel that the prices are too steep. Several players compare the prices to premium cosmetics in another popular ARPG, Path of Exile, noting that they are not significantly different. However, fans quickly point out that Path of Exile is free-to-play, while Diablo IV carries a $70 price tag. It's worth mentioning that Diablo Immortal, Blizzard's free-to-play mobile entry in the franchise, also sells premium cosmetics.
