Elden Ring creator Hidetaka Miyazaki named one of the Time's 100 most influential people of 2023
Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator behind the popular game Elden Ring, has been named one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of 2023. This prestigious recognition follows the launch of Elden Ring in February 2022, which sold over 20 million copies by February 2023 and received multiple game of the year awards.
Miyazaki's approach to game design is commended by Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann in his tribute, praising Miyazaki's ability to challenge players while still providing a rewarding experience. Miyazaki's other acclaimed games include the Dark Souls franchise, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Miyazaki is only the second video game developer to be selected for the Time’s list, after Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto was chosen in 2007. The list includes influential figures from various fields, such as American Gods author Neil Gaiman, Disney CEO Bob Iger, and U.S. President Joe Biden.
This recognition of Miyazaki highlights the significant cultural impact that video games have, and further solidifies his status as one of the most innovative and influential game developers of our time.
