New PlayStation App Unlocks Full DualSense Edge Controller Potential on PC
PC gamers can now make the most of Sony's high-performance DualSense Edge controller, thanks to the release of the new PlayStation Accessories app.
Sony has revamped its old “Firmware Updates For DualSense Wireless Controller” app, streamlining its design and enhancing the user experience. Now known as the PlayStation Accessories app, it enables PC players to fully access and customise all the advanced features of the DualSense Edge, just as PlayStation 5 users have been able to.
This upgrade provides users with the ability to create, edit, and switch between custom controller profiles on their PC. It allows gamers to adjust settings such as control stick sensitivity, deadzones, trigger effects, button assignments, and vibration intensity — all to match their preferred playstyle, whether they are diving into a fast-paced shooter, manoeuvring through a racing game, or navigating the challenges of a platformer.
A recent explainer video on X (formerly Twitter) showcases the range of customization options available. With these new settings, players can effortlessly shift between configurations tailored for different genres or even specific games, providing a seamless and adaptable gaming experience.
The app also extends the DualSense Edge’s versatility to mobile devices, ensuring that the controller's hefty $200 price tag delivers more value than ever before. IGN’s glowing 9/10 review praised the controller for its customization options, highlighting its “slick software and intuitive Function buttons” as a much-needed response to Xbox’s popular Elite controller.
Sony’s Live-Service Expansion on PC and PS5: A Mixed Bag of Results
The launch of the PlayStation Accessories app aligns with Sony’s broader push into live-service games across both PC and PS5. The results have been varied. Earlier this year, Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 became an astounding success, selling 12 million copies within 12 weeks and earning the title of the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time. However, Firewalk Studios’ Concord, a 5v5 hero shooter that debuted last week, appears to be struggling, with notably low concurrent player numbers on Steam.
In addition to its live-service strategy, Sony continues to bring more of its single-player titles to PC after their initial console releases. The highly anticipated God of War Ragnarök from Sony Santa Monica is set to launch on PC on September 19, nearly two years after its PlayStation debut.
With these moves, Sony is clearly looking to expand its footprint in the PC gaming space while continuing to offer enhanced experiences for all players, whether they prefer console or PC. The PlayStation Accessories app represents another step forward in that strategy, empowering players with the tools they need to play their way.
