Daedalic Entertainment apologizes for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum amidst backlash
Daedalic Entertainment has issued an apology for the disappointing state of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum after receiving harsh criticism from both reviewers and players. The studio has pledged to continue working on the game to ensure it reaches its full potential.
Surprisingly, the negative reaction to Gollum caught many off guard. Despite low expectations, a pre-release version showed some promise, with PC Gamer even suggesting a possible score in the mid-60s or even a surprise 70. However, the game's current Metacritic score sits at a dismal 43%, accompanied by a "mostly negative" label based on a meager 113 user reviews on Steam.
Gollum is plagued with bugs and performance issues, including frequent crashes and progression-breaking glitches. In response to the criticism, Daedalic Entertainment officially apologized, expressing deep regret for the underwhelming experience players have had. They assured fans that they are actively working to address the technical flaws and provide patches for an improved gameplay experience.
The apology, however, has not been well-received by everyone. Some accuse Daedalic of either incompetence or corruption, pushing out a flawed game knowingly or unknowingly. Others express frustration, demanding improvements to graphics, music, gameplay, and more. The negative feedback reflects a broader trend of dissatisfaction with recent game launches, as seen with apologies from publishers for titles like The Last of Us Part 1, Redfall, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
