Frontier announces new Warhammer RTS game Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin
Frontier has announced Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, an upcoming AAA real-time strategy game set in Games Workshop's fantasy universe. The game will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Realms of Ruin features a story-driven single-player campaign and PvP multiplayer modes, with support for cross-platform matches. The first two playable factions revealed in the cinematic announcement trailer are the Stormcast Eternals and the Orruk Kruleboyz.
The game's narrative is set in the treacherous lands of Ghur, known as the Realm of Beasts, and revolves around the Dawnbringer Crusades. Players take on the role of Sigrun, a Stormcast leader, who discovers an arcane power to protect Sigmar's armies from the Kruleboyz. The story has been co-written by Gavin Thorpe, a veteran designer and writer from Games Workshop's Black Library.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin promises a diverse range of mission types and modes, with maps featuring Arcane Conduits as resource-providing control points. The game's detailed unit models and dynamic camera system suggest it could be a successor to the beloved Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. Frontier has developed an interface called DirectStep to enhance the console experience, enabling tactical immediacy during battles.
While awaiting the full gameplay reveal in June, fans can explore the confirmed unit list for the Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Kruleboyz on the Games Workshop website. Warhammer enthusiasts and strategy game lovers are eagerly anticipating the release of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, which holds tremendous promise for an immersive gaming experience in the rich and captivating Age of Sigmar universe.
