Borderlands 4 Release Window Narrowed Down: Here’s What We Know

Fans of Borderlands now have a clearer idea of when to expect the highly anticipated Borderlands 4. Thanks to Take-Two Interactive’s latest financial report, the game’s release window has been narrowed to sometime between April 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025.

This update comes after the game’s official reveal at The Game Awards 2024. The teaser trailer gave fans a glimpse of the new story, characters, and the chaotic humor the franchise is known for. While excitement is high, Borderlands 4 follows Borderlands 3, which received mixed reactions due to launch performance issues and divisive story elements.

Take-Two’s Financial Report Offers New Clues

Take-Two Interactive, parent company of developer Gearbox Software, confirmed that Borderlands 4 is slated for its fiscal year 2026. This timeframe aligns with the teaser's 2025 release promise. As a result, fans can expect the game to arrive no earlier than April 2025 and no later than the end of that year. However, an exact release date remains elusive.

Will Borderlands 4 Avoid Delays?

Industry speculation suggests Borderlands 4’s release could be influenced by Grand Theft Auto 6. Both titles are part of Take-Two Interactive’s portfolio, and a simultaneous launch could potentially cannibalize sales. Given that GTA 6 is projected for 2025 but may face delays into 2026, this creates a unique challenge for Take-Two’s release strategy.

If GTA 6 slips into 2026, Borderlands 4 might target a holiday 2025 release. On the other hand, if both games stay on track for 2025, Gearbox may aim for a summer or early fall launch to avoid overlap. For now, fans should temper expectations for a release before April 2025.

Building on the Hype

Despite the cautious optimism around the release, Borderlands 4 has already generated significant excitement. Fans are eager to explore a new planet, face off against a new villain, and reunite with familiar faces from past games. Gearbox has plenty of time to fine-tune the experience and avoid the pitfalls that marred the reception of Borderlands 3.
