STALKER 2 developer hacked by Russian group and threatened with blackmail
Video game developer GSC Game World, known for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, has been hacked by a Russian group on a social networking site, according to a statement on Twitter. The studio disclosed that an employee's account was compromised, and that the hackers are threatening to use the data obtained for blackmail and intimidation. GSC Game World has faced cyberattacks since Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year, with attempts to leak data, personal information and materials related to the game.
In light of this, GSC Game World has called on fans not to distribute leaked information, as outdated and work-in-progress materials are not representative of the final product. Despite these challenges, development on STALKER 2 has continued, and GSC Game World has expressed its unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine, sharing glimpses of its Kiev office and workers before and after the invasion.
There is no set release date for STALKER 2, but it is expected to come out in 2023. GSC Game World's announcement highlights the ongoing threat of cyberattacks and the importance of implementing increased cybersecurity measures to protect companies and their clients. The studio expressed gratitude to the STALKER 2 community for their support and affirmed that "Your support is our inspiration."
