Epic Games Store Goes Mobile: Now Available on iOS and Android
Epic Games has officially expanded its digital storefront, the Epic Games Store (EGS), to mobile devices. The store is now available for download on both Android and iOS platforms, though the iOS version is currently limited to users in the European Union.
In their announcement, Epic criticised the installation process on mobile devices, describing it as deliberately cumbersome due to obstacles imposed by Apple and Google. Despite these challenges, Epic is committed to making the EGS a "game-focused, multi-platform store," available across Android, iOS, macOS, and PC. Developers on the mobile EGS will benefit from the platform’s standard 88/12 revenue share, reinforcing Epic's mission to create a more developer-friendly environment.
Fortnite Returns to Mobile
Along with the EGS launch, Fortnite has made its return to mobile devices. For the first time since being removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play in 2020, Fortnite is now available natively on mobile through the Epic Games Store. Additionally, iOS and Android users in the EU can access the game via the AltStore, a third-party digital storefront enabled by the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Epic Games also confirmed that Fall Guys and Rocket League Sideswipe are now available on Android devices worldwide and on EU iPhones, marking Fall Guys' debut on mobile.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney praised the European Commission for helping open the mobile ecosystem to competition, allowing European iOS users and all Android users to access the EGS. Sweeney emphasised that while there’s still work to be done, this is a significant step forward for developers and consumers alike.
With the EGS's expansion, Epic Games is reshaping the mobile gaming landscape, providing more options for both developers and players.
