Capcom Opens the Gates: No Pre-Order Needed for Monster Hunter Wilds Beta

The countdown is on for Monster Hunter Wilds, set to release on February 28, 2025, and Capcom is opening the doors wide with an open beta that starts today, no pre-order necessary. In an industry where early access is often locked behind a pre-purchase, Capcom is making it clear: anyone with a compatible platform can join the beta.

The news comes from the official Monster Hunter Twitter (now X) account, which posted a reminder aimed at clearing up any lingering questions about beta access. “Hunters, we’ve seen some comments wondering if you need to have pre-ordered Monster Hunter Wilds to access the Open Beta Test,” the account stated. “The answer is no, no pre-order is needed to play! However, if you’d like to pre-order after playing the Open Beta Test, that’d be cool!”

With interest growing for the series’ fresh approach, this open beta gives fans a chance to test new mechanics that significantly shift the Monster Hunter formula while keeping the core experience that has made the franchise a fan-favourite for over two decades. The open beta includes the same build that select players previewed in an early access event, where many praised the game for introducing unique changes without losing the adventurous feel.

Capcom’s decision not to gate the beta behind a pre-order could be a welcome trend, especially as players grow weary of paywalled access in gaming. Here’s hoping other developers follow suit!
