League of Legends MMO Producer Greg Street Announces Departure from Riot Games

Greg Street, executive producer on Riot Games' upcoming League of Legends (LoL) massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, has announced his departure from the company. Street took to Twitter to explain that "personal and professional considerations" were behind his decision.

"We experienced some devastating personal losses last year and I want to be closer to my surviving family," he said. "And after nine years at Riot, it feels like it's time for something new!"

Street assured fans that the LoL MMO was "in good hands" and that the team was "working hard to deliver an experience that you'll love." Riot Games president Marc Merrill also tweeted about the game, stating that "we believe in this game and the team working on it."

Street joined Riot Games in 2013 as lead gameplay designer for LoL, before eventually leading the company's creative division. Prior to joining Riot, he worked for Blizzard as lead systems designer on World of Warcraft.

Despite Street's departure, the development of the LoL MMO will continue. While the game is still in early development, Merrill stated that the team has a direction they're "very excited about," but warned that "it will still be a VERY long road to get there - thanks for being patient with us."

Street also indicated that he plans to stay in game development, stating that he'll be "with you all playing the Riot MMO when it comes out."
