Elden Ring breaks record for most Game Of The Year awards ever
There are many organizations and bodies that provide their own Game Of The Year awards, with the Game Developer Choice Award and The Game Awards being some of note. When all is said and done, no matter how prestigious and professional the organization is, there is always a level of subjectivity involved, however when the total amount of awards grows to a certain level, it becomes near impossible to dispute its brilliance.
As of last count, Elden Ring is not only the most awarded video game of 2022, but it now has the most Game Of The Year awards ever with 331. This surpasses God Of War: Ragnarok which has 78, and takes the crown from the previous record holder, The Last Of Us 2, which has 322. The top 5 Game Of The Year award recipients are ranked below.
Elden Ring (2022) - 331
The Last Of Us 2 (2022) - 322
The Witcher 3 (2015) - 281
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) - 264
God of War (2018) - 263
Over time, more and more entities have emerged with their own Game Of The Year awards including YouTubers and media outlets, which have been included in the total count. This would have likely contributed to Elden Ring’s dominance in the award category compared to games such as the Last Of Us 1, released back in 2013 which received a total of 257 awards. Nevertheless, the numbers speak for themselves, and it's safe to say that Elden Ring is one of, if not the best game of all time
